Artist Statement: The Dirt In Me, encompasses a body of work in the form of photographs and poetry that seek to weave together experiences of personal growth. The images are of objects and materials that represent a sentimental value and serve a metaphorical purpose. The use of fabric and thread is important as it is inspired by my mother and abuela who sew on fabric, as well as have a green thumb outdoors. In addition to the installed pieces,

The Dirt In Me is also a compilation of poems in the form of a zine, of which the art pieces were inspired by. Over the span of several years following High School, writing was a natural response for me growing through experiences and into the world of a 20-something. This exhibit is supposed to represent the dirt, as in this metaphorical soil, we all carry that has the potential to grow a garden or to let dry up. It is a constant maintenance, this garden we inherit, each different and unique.

As a current undergrad student at CSUSM in Art, Media & Design, my work is constantly exploring various ways of incorporating the visual image through multi-media or mixed-media modalities in order to create an intentional narrative. Description of Work Multiple digital photographs colorfully represented by floral themes. Most pieces will be displayed on fabric material, which will incorporate transferred photographs on the fabric. Additionally, I will also have on display poetry Zines to compliment the installed pieces.
