About the talk:
As climate continues to evolve, so does the behavior of extreme weather events and their impacts on the health of an evolving population. Drs. Alexander Gershunov (climatologist) and Tarik Benmarhnia (epidemiologist) partner on interdisciplinary studies of extreme weather impacts on the health of California's complex population. Sasha and Tarik work to assess the links between weather patterns and health outcomes in a varying and changing climate. They will discuss how global climate change impacts local iconic weather patterns (atmospheric rivers, Santa Ana winds) as well as the significance of these weather patterns to public health. Specifically, they will focus on heat waves, fire weather, precipitation regimes and extremes and their impacts on health via thermal stress, smoke from wildfires, and toxic runoff to the coastal zone.
We invite you to come sit back, sip your favorite beverage and participate in the discussion. Suds & Science puts the fun and spirit(s) back into learning.
